  1. Fish oil can beat dementia and extend lives

    Something fishy about life extension

Your own doc will swear up and down there's nothing you can do about cognitive impairment... that age alone means your brain is starting to lose it... and that you're on the slow path to the three Ds: decline, dementia and death.

Well, trust me when I tell you he's flat-out wrong.

Maybe there's nothing HE can do about it, but there is something YOU can do -- because despite his grim predictions, you CAN slow, stop and even reverse cognitive impairment, cognitive decline and even dementia and extend your life.

And if you're in the earliest stages of mild cognitive impairment, new research shows the one action you need to take right now that can slow it down: Take some fish oil.

The omega-3 fatty acid DHA found in fish oil can stop aging on a cellular level -- protecting you from both the ravages of cognitive decline and maybe even death itself.

The secret is in what's called the telomeres, or the little caps on the end of your DNA strands. They're like sands in the hourglass -- because the older you get, the shorter they get.

And the shorter they get, the less time you've got left.

When they get too short, disease such as dementia and even death aren't far behind -- but the study of 33 patients with mild cognitive impairment finds that DHA can slow the telomere shrink, perhaps preventing the decline from turning into dementia and saving your life at the same time.

Now, I've seen the mainstream know-it-alls dismiss this as one small study. But the fact is, fish oil has been shown to slow telomere shrink before -- and in one major study last year, omega-3 fatty acids were shown to actually help them get LONGER.

My advice: Take some fish oil.

But if you want to extend your telomeres -- and extend your life -- don't stop there.

I had the four simple, safe and inexpensive nutrients proven to slow telomere shrink in the January 2013 edition of my Douglass Report newsletter.

  2. Fish oil 'drug' falls short

How to screw up fish oil

You'd have to try pretty darned hard to screw up something as perfect as fish oil, so let's give Big Pharma major points for effort here -- because they've REALLY screwed up fish oil.

They've concocted a synthetic derivative of fish oil so lousy that even the approve-anything feds weren't fooled into expanding its approval.

It's a "drug" called Vascepa, and while it has the OK for people with sky-high triglycerides, the feds now say they want to see more research before they approve it for anyone else.

If only they were half as cautious on statins!

But here's the thing: If you want to cut your triglycerides, you don't need some pricey synthetic phony-baloney fish oil or any other "drug."

You need the real deal -- the natural stuff straight from the sea, which you'll find in any supplement shop (or sushi restaurant). It's loaded with both EPA and DHA, two natural omega-3 fatty acids that work together to bring triglycerides down.

Vascepa, on the other hand, contains only a synthetic derivative of just one fatty acid, EPA, so of course it does a lousy job.

But Big Pharma's goal here isn't to make fish oil better. It's to make it more profitable. (Of course.)

Since you can't patent natural substances, anyone can sell plain old fish oil -- and because anyone can sell it, the price remains reasonable and even downright cheap.

That's the free market at work.

But if you can "tweak" it, you can slap a patent on it, stop people from selling anything that resembles your version and then jack up the price by several thousand percent.

And that's what's really going on with fish oil and Vascepa and all the other fish oil "drugs" out there now or heading to the market.

    Don't be fooled.

You can't beat plain old fish oil when it comes to natural protection for your heart, brain, eyes and more, and that's true whether your triglycerides are high, low or in between.

Just stick to a quality supplement from a maker you trust that's been purified to remove mercury and other contaminants.

  3. New study on fish oil and heart health is wrong

A new study claims that fish oil can't help the heart and help prevent strokes, and heart attacks -- but wait ‘til you see how researchers managed to screw this one up.
  4. Omega-3 fatty acids protect eyesight

Experiments show that omega-3 fatty acids, like those found in DHA fish oil supplements, may keep toxins from building up in the eye and protect eyesight.
  5. Vitamins boost brainpower

Big Pharma has pumped billions into the hunt for a brain-boosting drug, and all they have to show for it so far is a bunch of tax write-offs. But there is something you can pop right now to get your brain juices flowing, and it's the cheap little pills you should be taking anyway -- your daily vitamins.
  6. Fish oil for brain health

You don't have to be among the alt-health faithful to believe in omega-3 fatty acids anymore. Do make sure you get yours from either a steady fish habit or a quality supplement -- because there's barely a part of the body that doesn't need those fatty acids, starting with your brain.
  7. The 'forbidden' foods that will save your brain

A healthy diet rich in key nutrients can protect your brain and keep dementia at bay? No kidding! Yet that's the latest "discovery" from the mainstream -- and you're not going to believe what they put seniors through to figure this out.
  8. Let them eat fish

Seniors who suffer from depression don't need a drug, a hug, or a room in an old folk's home.
