Is your child being served cancer with their cookies?
If you've ever had a child you really don't need me to tell you that it's kind of like setting your wallet on fire. Because, the truth is, nobody burns through your cash faster than kids.
But even when kids' hands are too tiny to snatch your dough, there is an army of day care centers willing to do the job. You're taking out a second mortgage so your kid, or grandkid, can roll around on foam-rubber mats with his soft-headed playmates. But your tyke may be getting a lot more than a daily dose of milk and cookies in the bargain.
Turns out your day care center may be giving your kiddo cancer!
A Berkeley research team has just wrapped up a terrifying study that found these baby-watching factories are CRAWLING with dangerous flame-retarding chemicals that have been BANNED in much of the developed world.
Researchers studied the air at 40 child care centers in California -- we're talking home, private, and government-run centers -- and found toxic levels of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) that have been linked to hormonal imbalances, brain disease, and even cancer.
PBDEs are flame retardants that are already illegal throughout much of Europe, and for good reason. A 2010 study found that PBDE exposure can lower your child's IQ by up to 8 points! Better forget that academic scholarship!
You're shelling out thousands of dollars a year in child care, and it's time to insist your day care center go PBDE-free. Because when your child is fighting to take his first step or speak his first words, he shouldn't have to be fighting for his life.
