  1. This bad habit TRIPLES your Alzheimer’s risk

When we retire, most of us pick up new hobbies and interests.

Maybe you started playing golf more… or got caught up on some reading.

But there’s one daily habit that LOTS of seniors develop… and it could be turning your brain to mush.

    I’m talking about daytime napping.

Now, you might be thinking, “What’s a little catnap, after all?”

Well, that daytime napping could be sending your Alzheimer’s risk through the roof.

Researchers at John Hopkins found that seniors who reported being sleepy during the day were three TIMES more likely to develop Alzheimer’s.

There are probably a couple of reasons for this…

First, daytime fatigue can be a sign that you’re not sleeping well at night.

And those nighttime sleeping hours are when your brain basically flushes itself of toxins and plaques that can lead to Alzheimer’s.

There’s actually a very strong link between poor sleep and Alzheimer’s.

Second, daytime sleepiness can actually be a sign of early Alzheimer’s itself.

As Alzheimer’s-causing toxins (like heavy metals) build up in our systems, they can attack our brains and thyroids and cause symptoms like fatigue.

To improve your sleep, your best bet is to try a supplement like melatonin. Melatonin actually helps regulate our sleep cycles, but your levels can dip with age.

To protect your brain, I recommend supplementing with cerefolin NAC. It’s a prescription-only supplement that’s been formulated to protect your brain from our toxic world by boosting levels of a key antioxidant called glutathione.

If your doctor won’t prescribe it for you or you can’t afford it, simply combine B vitamins, NAC, alpha lipoic acid, zinc and selenium. You’ll get the same effect – and you can buy these supplements anywhere.

  2. Is this cooking oil GIVING you Alzheimer’s?!

If you’ve been reading my eTips for a while now, you know that the health of your BRAIN depends a lot on the food you put in your MOUTH.

Cooking fresh foods at home — rather than nuking a package or hitting the drive-thru — is one of the best ways to shield yourself from toxins in processed foods that can ravage your gray matter.

Of course, WHAT you cook makes a difference, too. A plate of salmon and veggies makes for much better “brain food” than a bowl of pasta.

But according to a new study, what you’re cooking WITH is equally important — because if your go-to oil in the kitchen is canola, you could be setting yourself up for a major brain drain.

    I’m talking about Alzheimer’s disease.

In the study out of Temple University, baby mice were divided into two groups: Half were fed a standard diet, while the other half were fed the same diet supplemented with the equivalent of two tablespoons of canola oil daily.

Now, these weren’t just any old mice — they had been altered to simulate a model of Alzheimer’s disease in humans, which means their symptoms wouldn’t kick in until later in their lives.

At the end of six months, it turned out that the mice who’d been lapping up canola oil performed WORSE on tests of learning and memory than the mice who hadn’t eaten a drop of the stuff.

They also had an INCREASE in the plaques and tangles we typically see in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

That’s likely because their brains were swimming in a protein called amyloid beta, which, as you’ve read right here, is associated with the formation of these plaques and tangles in at least half the cases of seniors with mild cognitive impairment.

And their gray matter showed damage to key synapses — which are points where neurons come together — known to play a role in how we form and retrieve precious memories.

Translation: Consuming canola oil SPED UP their development of Alzheimer’s symptoms.

These results really don’t surprise me — because even though canola oil is peddled as one of the “healthiest” vegetable oils around, it’s actually a “Frankenfood” full of toxic JUNK.

It typically comes from genetically modified plants… is so highly processed that it contains artery-clogging trans fats… and often retains residues from toxic pesticides.

And even though canola oil does contain anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, it packs in twice as many omega-6 fatty acids. For optimal health, that ratio should actually be flipped!

Unfortunately, canola oil is ubiquitous in everything from salad dressings to butter “alternatives” to canned soups — so you’ve got to read labels carefully to avoid it.

But don’t worry, because there are oils that not only won’t HURT your brain… but will actually HELP it!

A better choice would be minimally processed extra-virgin olive oil, which studies show fights inflammation AND Alzheimer’s brain changes.

Avocado oil and grapeseed oil are also tasty choices with a bounty of benefits, and I always recommend my patients take an omega-3 supplement rich in both DHA and EPA as well.

  3. Miracle herb can SAVE your brain after stroke

It’s one of the most ancient trees on earth… it can live to be 1,000 years old… and it could help YOU live a longer and healthier life. I’m talking about ginkgo biloba. The fan-shaped leaves of the ginkgo biloba tree have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine for everything from aiding memory to fighting depression. And now...
  4. Are these popular meds GIVING you Alzheimer’s?

Want to hear 30 seconds of total silence at your next doctor’s appointment? Ask your doc why some people get Alzheimer’s and some don’t. The truth is that the typical mainstream doctor can’t tell you. Maybe he’ll eventually give you some spiel about bad luck or bad genes… But that’s not the whole story. Fact is, we’re surrounded by toxins...
  5. ‘Going under’ can bring your brain down

You fall asleep... and you wake up with a new hip or a stent in your heart… or without a couple of cataracts. Surgeons can do some pretty amazing things once they’ve put you “under!” And if your doc has recommended an operation for you, the promise of those "clear-cut" results can sure make you want to sign up. But...
  6. Could this WWII breakthrough save your brain?

If you’ve got young grandkids, you know their mantra by now: Newer is better. Kids these days are always on the lookout for the newest phone… video game system… or “smart watch.” (God forbid they should have to wind a wristwatch!) And trust me… Big Pharma is the same way. It introduces DOZENS of new drugs each year that are...
  7. The fuzzy fruit that keeps you sharp as a tack

You misplace your sunglasses… forget to pack your toothbrush on your summer trip... and can't seem to remember if you reapplied your sunscreen. Everyone fumbles life's little details from time to time, and the heat of summer can sure make your brain feel even fuzzier. But if your "brain burps" keep piling up, it may be a sign of cognitive...
  8. Not drinking water? Your brain may turn to mush

Another heat wave is about to sweep through the American West... and Japan just experienced its hottest day in recorded history. Here in the Northeast – neither a barren desert nor a tropical climate – it’s been so hot and humid that when you take one step out the front door, your face starts dripping. Even if your mouth doesn’t...
  9. What your eyes can tell us about your brain

They say that your eyes are windows to your soul. And regardless of whether that's true, there sure is a lot that docs can tell about your health by peering deeply into them. Of course, eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration can steal your sight, but that's not all that your doc can see in an eye exam. The...
  10. Could Alzheimer's be caused by a BUG?

Call it the $64,000 question. For decades, scientists have been trying to figure out exactly what sets off the brain changes that lead to the devastating memory loss of Alzheimer’s disease. And so far… no "smoking gun." Sure, we have a lot of leads, with recent studies pointing to everything from blood vessel damage to inflammation raging in your gray...
