It’s time to put this breakfast villain back on the menu
You’ve got to hand it to the mainstream. When they want to run a health scare campaign, they sure know how to do it right.
And for years, doctors and even our government had people so scared of eating eggs that lots of folks would rather put a cigarette in their mouths than an omelet.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met who haven’t touched an egg in years because they’ve been told it would jack up their cholesterol and turn them into a heart attack waiting to happen.
But it looks like a group of Finnish researchers are going to have the last word on the Great Egg Debate. And they’ve found that all that advice on eggs leading to heart disease is total garbage.
Score one for common sense!
In their study, just published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers tracked 1,000 middle-aged men for 20 years. After all that time, they couldn’t find a shred of proof that regularly eating eggs increases your chances of heart disease.
Even better, these researchers looked at people who had a specific gene that makes them more sensitive to cholesterol. And eating eggs was safe for those folks, too.
As you know, I’m a big proponent of the Paleo Diet, which emphasizes healthy proteins like eggs. And that’s because I’ve found that most people – especially seniors – aren’t getting the protein and fats they need to protect their muscles, brains, and other vital organs.
Plus, the Paleo Diet is great for helping to keep your blood sugar in check.
So if you’ve been swearing off eggs for ages, it’s time to bring that frying pan out of retirement. Boil them, baste them, scramble them, or poach them – cook ’em up however you like, because starting off your day with an egg isn’t going to harm your heart.
And it just may be the secret to a healthier and longer life.
